Pink City – Royal Jaipur

Jaipur is the royal capital city of the Royal Rajasthan. On 18 November 1727 Sawai Jai Singh II, the Rajput ruler of Amer, founded Jaipur. The Jaipur City named after the name of Sawai Jai Singh II. Pink City is another name for Jaipur, which plays an important role in the Golden Triangle.

Forts of Pink City

Amber Fort- Amer Fort or Amber Fort was the creation of Kachhwaha Maharaja Man Singh in 1589. In 1727, the construction of the Fort was completed during the rule of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. In 2013 World Heritage Committee declared the fort as a World Heritage site.

Jaigarh Fort- In the 16th century, Mirza Raja Maan Singh founded the fort. In 1726, Maharaja Jai Singh II completed the construction of the fort during his reign and named it after his name. The fort, a symbol of victory, situated on Cheel ka Tila, covers an area of 3 Km sq. 

The purpose of constructing this fort was to protect the Amber fort. The Army of the king used the fort as a practice ground for war. Dungar Gate, Awami Gate, Jaivana Cannon, and Diya Burj are the things to watch there.

Important landmarks 

Jaipur city has important landmarks which help tourists to reach the location. Some of the important landmarks of Pink City are as below.

Jal Mahal- The Jal Mahal, an important landmark is located in the middle of Man Sagar. In 1699, Sawai Pratap Singh constructed the palace. For more information, some floors of the building are underwater. In the past, the Maharaja and his special guests lived here. The paintings on the palace walls and the architecture are so adorable and amazing.

Hawa Mahal -The mahal is 87 feet high and a five-story building. In 1799, Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh founded it with the help of designer Lal Chand Ustad. The use of red and pink sandstone enhances its glory. The five floors in the palace have different names.

For instance, the stories are about Shard Mandir, Ratan Mandir, Vichitra Mandir (in devotion to Shri Krishan), Prakash Mandir, and Hawa Mandir. At present, the Rajasthan government is controlling and managing the palace.

City Palace- In 1727 Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II created the city palace. Diwan-e-Khas for private meetings, Pritam Chowk (dancing courtyard), Diwan-e-Aaam for meetings of the general public, weapons gallery, friends of the museums, and Mubarak Mahal ( textile gallery) are the attractions of the palace. 

Also, the 7-storeyed Chandra Mahal is the place where the members of the royal family reside and is an amazing monument.

Sabha Niwas is another name for Diwan-e-Aaam. City Palace has a museum named Maharaja Sawai Maan Singh II.

Parks and gardens to visit in Jaipur are following 

Central Park- It is one of the largest parks in Pink City. Jaipur Development Authority built it in 2006 to increase greenery. It is the top place for bird watchers. The highest flag post in India is in the central park of Pink City. The park is the first choice for a day picnic.

Kanak Vrindavan- Kanak Vrindavan is a greenery park and a place of temples. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II proposed the garden more than 270 years ago. Furthermore, Radha Madhav Ji and Natwar Lal Ji Temple are the main points of the garden.

Nahargarh Biological Park- The park is a collection of varied wildlife species. The location of the park is in between the forest. Jhalana Leopard Safari – In ancient times members of the royal family used it as a private game reserve. In other words, they used to hunt wild animals here. Above all, there is a tigress named Flora also known as the queen of Jhalana.

Sisodiya Rani Palace and Bagh and Ram Niwas Garden are also in the counting of beautiful parks & gardens of the Pink City. Architectural Importance of Pink City

Jantar Mantar- Jantar Mantar in Pink city is one of the 5 Jantar Mantars in India. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II constructed all 5 sites out of which Pink City has the largest Jantar Mantar. It is an astronomical observatory where 19 astronomic instruments are present. The word ‘Jantar’ means ‘yantra’ or instrument and ‘Mantar’ means calculation. 

The construction period of this calculating instrument site was from 1728 to 1734. Solar watch, Dhruv darshak patika, yantra raj, jaya prakash yantra, and many more mind-blowing instruments are present there. 

Gaitore ki Chhatriyan- The visit to the site gives knowledge about Vedic architecture as well as the Indo-Persian style. These are the cenotaphs of the royal family members. Maharaja Jai Singh II built it in 1733. The use of white marble in the dome specifies it.

Panna Meena Ka Kund- It is one of the step-wells of the Pink City. Surprisingly, there is no valid history about this kund. Water storage was the purpose of making this kind. The architectural structure of the kund is amazing and sight-gaining.

Chand Baori- The location of this beautiful step well is in Abhaneri village Chand Baori, counted as the oldest and most popular site, is one of the largest step wells in the world. Similarly, in Panna Meena, water conservation was the purpose of the Baori.

Isarlat Sargasooli – The tower is the symbol of victory. Maharaja Sawai Iswhari Singh built it in 1749. He got victory over Marathas & Mewar. The tower stands at a height of 140 feet. Additionally, the use of red sandstone and white marble enhances its look.

Historical sites of Jaipur
